Gray plastic water lines in your home? That’s often polybutylene, a pipe with a long history of failures. We confirm what you have and replace it with modern PEX or copper.
Polybutylene was a popular plastic water pipe in homes built from the late 1970s to the mid-1990s. Over time it has proven prone to sudden leaks, often at the fittings, and many homes in Northeast Florida from that era still have it.
Because of that history, some insurers and buyers ask about it during a sale or a new policy. Replacing it is a planned project instead of a surprise flood. We usually replace it with PEX, which installs quickly with few fittings.
Flexible plastic lines, often gray, coming out of walls at sinks and toilets.
Many poly pipes carry a PB2110 or similar code printed along the side.
Homes from this period are the most likely to have it, but only an inspection confirms it.
Look where the pipes enter the house and at the water heater connections.
We check visible pipe at the water heater, meter and fixtures.
New routes planned through walls, attic or crawl space with minimal openings.
All polybutylene is removed from service and the new system is pressure-tested.
You get an invoice describing the work, which is useful for insurance and resale.
Text us a photo of the pipes at your water heater and we’ll tell you what we see.

It isn’t a health hazard, but it has a reputation for failing without warning, which can cause major water damage.
You can, but the remaining poly is the same age and material. A full replacement is usually the better long-term value.
Policies vary. Some insurers ask about polybutylene or limit coverage. Check with your agent, and we can provide documentation once it’s replaced.
About the same as a whole-house repipe: typically a few days for most homes.
